  • Apply Now for Research Funding

    The SSO is accepting proposals for the 2020-2022 Clinical Investigator Award (CIA) and the 2020 Young Investigator Award (YIA) through Tuesday, January 7, 2020. The purpose of these awards is to promote patient-oriented research conducted by surgical oncologists in clinical and translational science. Interested researchers are invited to apply for the award. Applications are reviewed and selected by members of the SSO Research Committee.

  • Volunteer for an SSO Committee Position

    The 2020 Application for Engagement is now open - there are 74 positions available to SSO members. Apply today to serve on one of the Committees, Subcommittees or Work Groups that perform important work in many areas of the Society. Those who are accepted for a position during the Application for Engagement will be invited to serve two or three-year terms starting April 1, 2020. Committee members are expected to actively participate in any conference call or face-to-face meeting that is arranged. The Application for Engagement is open now through Tuesday, November 5, 2019.

  • Register for Advanced Cancer Therapies Meeting

    Registration and housing for Advanced Cancer Therapies (ACT) formerly, the International Symposium on Regional Cancer Therapies is open. Advanced Cancer Therapies, formerly known as the International Symposium on Regional Cancer Therapies, is SSO’s surgical oncology event that focuses on regional therapies including HIPEC, regional limb infusions and perfusions for sarcomas melanomas and other diseases. This surgical oncology event will be held in Orlando, FL, February 15 – 17, 2020. To register for Advanced Cancer Therapies click here.

  • Less than one month to submit an abstract for SSO 2020

    Registration is open for Advanced Cancer Therapies (ACT)and the abstract deadline is Wednesday, October 16, 2019. ACT is SSO’s surgical oncology event that focuses on regional therapies including HIPEC, regional limb infusions and perfusions for sarcomas, melanomas and other diseases.

    Through the generosity of ACPMP (Appendix Cancer/Pseudomyxoma Peritonei Research Foundation), SSO is offering up to 10 travel awards of $1,000 to high scoring abstracts. Please review full information on the Call for Abstracts form and ensure you check the corresponding question in your submission to be considered for this travel award opportunity.

  • Partners for World Health Medical Mission Opportunity

    Partners for World Health is looking for volunteers to the 3rd Annual Conference on Care of the Cancer Patient at the National Institute of Cancer and Research Hospital in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Specifically: 1 GYN ONC, 1 Breast Cancer Surgeon, 1 GI Surgeon and 1 Head and Neck Surgeon, 1-2 Medical Oncologists and 1 Palliative Care Specialist.

    This 6-day conference is planned to provide education and training to physicians and nurses on non-communicable diseases, care of the cancer patient, medication administration, wound care education and infection control. In addition, surgical intervention with consultation (both in-patient and out-patient) will be provided. Outreach to provide education to Bangladesh women about breast self-exam and breast cancer will be provided at the community level.  Surgeons will have 4 surgical days at the NICRH and Dhaka Medical College in addition to the expectation of delivering educational PowerPoint presentations to clinical audiences.
  • Apply for SSO 2020 International Career Development Exchange Program

    SSO Active International members are being offered an opportunity by the Society of Surgical Oncology to apply for the SSO 2020 International Career Development Exchange (ICDE) program.

    The two selected recipients will attend SSO 2020, which will take place in Boston, Massachusetts on March 25-28, 2020. Following SSO 2020, the recipients will visit one U.S. cancer institution to observe procedures, clinics and conferences for one week. The successful candidates will receive complimentary SSO 2020 registration and a stipend of $3,000 USD to assist with travel and accommodation costs.

  • Call for Abstracts - SSO 2020

    The Scientific Program Committee of the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) invites you to submit your abstract for the 2020 International Conference on Surgical Cancer Care (formerly known as the SSO Annual Cancer Symposium). SSO 2020 will take place March 25-28 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

    Abstracts may be submitted in nine different solid-tumor categories, as well as categories for Quality Improvement/Clinical Outcomes, Team Science, Disparities in Surgical Oncologic Care and video.

    The Call for Abstracts will close on Monday, October 7, 2019 at 11:59 ET. Abstract notifications will be sent by mid-November, 2019.

    SSO is excited to announce that Advanced Cancer Therapies, formerly the International Symposium on Regional Cancer Therapies, is now accepting abstracts through Wednesday, October 16, 2019. Please note that abstracts submitted to SSO 2020 will be allowed for presentation at this meeting. Advanced Cancer Therapies will take place February 15-17, 2020 at the Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel in Orlando, FL.

    Advanced Cancer Therapies serves as a comprehensive forum to promote research, development and application of treatments for regional cancer therapies. This event promotes education and the exchange of information among professionals regarding advanced cancer therapies.

  • Apply to the Visiting Observership Program

    SSO members are being offered an outstanding opportunity by the European Society of Surgical Oncology to apply for a visiting observership in Europe. The deadline to apply is Friday, July 26, 2019.

    The selected recipient will attend ESSO 39 held in Rotterdam, Netherlands on October 9-11, 2019. Following the meeting, the selected observership candidate will visit two-to-three preeminent European surgical oncology institutions to observe procedures.

    The successful candidate will receive complimentary registration and an honorarium of $3,000 USD to assist with travel and accommodation costs during the duration of the exchange, which should last up to two weeks.

  • Speaking of SurgOnc Podcast

    SSO and the Annals of Surgical Oncology are proud to announce the release of the first episode of Speaking of SurgOnc a podcast that expands on ideas from articles published in the Annals of Surgical Oncology. Once a month, ASO Deputy Editor Dr. Frederick L. (Rick) Greene will interview authors and leading experts in surgical oncology. In the inaugural episode, Dr. Greene and Dr. David R. Byrd discuss the 8th edition of the TNM staging system, which through its advances supports the concept of a team approach to cancer staging by clinical oncologists including cancer registrars, pathologists, and radiologists.     The SSO Education Council needs your help! In order to better understand the educational needs and preferred learning styles of SSO’s members, the Council is requesting your completion of a Learner Profile Survey. The survey includes a total of ten (10) questions and takes a total of 4 minutes to complete.

    SSO is offering one (1) complimentary SSO 2020 registration to an individual, chosen at random, that completes the survey.

  • Display Your SSO 2019 Abstract Data in China

    SSO members who had an abstract accepted at SSO 2019 are invited to apply for an extraordinary opportunity to present the same SSO 2019 data in poster form at the Annual Meeting of the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology in Xiamen, China from September 18-22, 2019. 

    The Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO) is offering up to 15 poster presenters from SSO 2019 a travel stipend of $1,000 USD, accommodations for four nights during the CSCO Annual Meeting and complimentary registration for the meeting.
  • Apply for an SSO Scholarship

    The SSO is pleased to offer a scholarship to the Society of University Surgeons (SUS) Leadership Agility Program. This program is designed for aspiring surgical leaders, division chiefs, center leaders, and hospital and medical school leaders. It will take place September 22-25, 2019 at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. The scholarship is being sponsored by the SSO in partnership with the SUS.
